On the 26th October 2004 in the second Test against Bangladesh , Stephen Fleming stepped onto the field and became New Zealand 's most capped player, achieving 87 Test appearances to supplant Sir Richard Hadlee. When he launched into a lofted cover drive for a boundary he reached 82 and supplanted Martin Crowe at the head of the all-time run scoring list. Crowe had scored 5444 runs in his 77-match career.
