Authenticity

Insignia International Ltd is very aware of the issues facing collectors today in their ability to verify the authenticity of signatures on the items of memorabilia they purchase. Insignia doesn’t offer you a Certificate of Authenticity from their company; to all intents and purposes this would be worthless. The Certificate they offer is in fact an extension of their contract with the team or individual sportsperson represented. The Certificate bears the logo of the team represented and is signed by a Senior Executive from the or governing body or licensing agent, (often valuable in itself) verifying the originality of the signatures and the quantity of the limited edition release.

In the past a Certificate alone would have been enough to prove authenticity. In this era of modern technology however, with the internet and online auctions, the unscrupulous few who are offering fraudulent items are changing the way in which companies like Insignia International support and provide licensed, personally signed memorabilia.

The Insignia way of securing Absolute Authenticity:

PHOTOGRAPHS: Seeing is believing and therefore, where possible, all of Insignia’s signing sessions are photographed and/or videoed and published as proof of a signing session having taken place.

CONTRACTS: Any legitimate company will sign a contract with the governing body, team or individual sports person. Insignia will now offer a one page version of their contact with the relevant governing body outlining the general terms and conditions under which Insignia is licensed to produce and market that particular item of memorabilia. It will also have the contact details of the governing body for verification.

CONTACTABILITY: Insignia’s contact details are displayed clearly on the website. If you are buying an Insignia product on the secondary market, invest in a phone call or drop us an email to verify its authenticity.

You should never buy anything online from a company that does not tell you who they are or how to contact them, especially if they are asking for credit card details. They should display all information including the names of directors, contact phone and fax numbers, email address and a physical address. If you have any doubts about an item give the company a call to make sure they have a physical presence. Fraudulent companies are generally not that easy to find or contact.

Advice: Buyer be wary! As a result of Ebay and a host of global trading sites many items of memorabilia bearing false signatures are in circulation. Some companies advertise for children to collect signatures on sports shirts and other items then frame them as legitimate ‘guaranteed memorabilia’. Do your research and check the authenticity carefully before you buy - without authentication your item could be worthless.
